Kasdan Talks “Solo” Sequel Hopes & Reason

Lucasfilm

Disney is set to launch its “Willow” revival TV series on Wednesday, and ahead of its debut the show’s writer/executive producer Jon Kasdan has touched upon another Lucasfilm franchise he’s been involved with – “Star Wars”.

Kasdan, son of legendary “Raiders of the Lost Ark” and “The Empire Strikes Back” scribe Lawrence Kasdan, teamed with his father to co-write 2018’s “Solo: A Star Wars Story”.

The film ended up becoming a box-office bomb, pulling in $393.2 million worldwide on a blown-out budget of $275-300 million after the project was heavily retooled mid-production when Phil Lord and Chris Miller were ousted as directors and replaced by Ron Howard.

Nonetheless, there’s still a good amount of love out there for the film – enough that people keep asking whether there’ll be a follow-up. There’s even a #MakeSolo2Happen movement going around on social media. ComicBook.Com (via StarWarsNews.Net spoke with Kasdan about his desire to see star Alden Ehrenreich back in the Millennium Falcon for more adventures as had originally been intended:

“The reason for a Solo 2 is if there’s a great reason, and certainly, I’d be game if there was… there were so many great characters we were able to establish, and for me, the strongest argument for a Solo 2 is the movie was Alden [Ehrenrich]’s journey to owning that mantle, and by the end of it, I thought he really did, and he didn’t get the fun of getting just to inhabit it for a movie, so I’d love to see him back.”

Lawrence Kasdan a few months ago indicated a follow-up to “Solo” would be the one thing he would consider returning to “Star Wars” for, and he would prefer a film over a series.

Current Disney CEO Bob Iger previously indicated that it was the film’s release date to blame for Solo’s failure, the movie hitting a mere five months after “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” and squished between “Avengers: Infinity War” and “Deadpool 2” which meant the film got swallowed whole.
