Though Netflix and Amazon have been in pursuit, it’s Apple that’s reportedly near a deal to land the rights to author Michael Lewis’ upcoming book about fallen crypto king Sam Bankman-Fried and the FTX empire says Deadline.
Lewis penned the books that inspired the films “Moneyball,” “The Big Short” and “The Blind Side” and spent six months with entrepreneur Bankman-Fried whose FTX cryptocurrency exchange was said to be worth billions at one point before it collapsed earlier this month. Bankman-Fried resigned as CEO of the company, which has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.
The trade reports that the project is expected to be turned into a feature, and director Adam McKay might become involved at some point. David Fincher, David Yates and David Heyman were all said to be among the filmmakers circling the project.
Lewis’ book will reportedly attempt to explain what went down at the company and with Bankman-Fried, though the story is still very much in play right now with more revelations expected.
Others are working on their own projects about the story too, including Scott Burns and Jonathan Glickman’s Panoramic, and writer Graham Moore.
