Illumination and Universal Pictures’ highly anticipated “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” animated film launched its first trailer yesterday, taking the internet by storm.
As expected, the most frequent topic of conversation was Chris Pratt’s voice as Mario. What wasn’t expected was that Pratt was using what essentially sounded like only a slight Brooklyn-sounding variation of his own voice, as opposed to a badly exaggerated Italian accented voice that had been expected.
In the wake of the debate about his voice, two further versions of the trailer have shown up. First came an official Italian dubbed trailer with the Italian voice actor providing a much more whimsical line reading.
The second was crafted by voice actor Carlos Morillo who used clips from Charles Martinet’s many Mario performances and his own Martinet impersonation to replace all of Pratt’s lines .
“The Super Mario Bros. Movie” itself is slated to hit cinemas next April.
