A new Bloomberg report indicates that the currently in the works “Grand Theft Auto 6” game will take place in an area based on Miami (i.e. Vice City), and may feature a female playable character – a franchise first.

The report says development on the game first began in 2014 and early designs called for the inclusion of territories modelled after large swaths of North and South America. Those ambitions were subsequently reeled in for a fictional version of Miami and its surrounding areas.

The potential female playable character will be a Latina woman and one of a pair of leading characters in a story influenced by the bank robbers Bonnie and Clyde.

The outlet adds the game is “at least two years away” and developers are being cautious not to ‘punch down’ and joke about marginalized groups.

The game will reportedly feature more interior locations than previous GTA games, which has reportedly impacted the development timeline.

Also in an effort to have less crunch during the game’s final months, the single-player map will reportedly be updated over time to add “new missions and cities on a regular basis.”
