Netflix has premiered the first trailer for Oscar-winning filmmaker Guillermo del Toro’s “Pinocchio,” a whimsical stop-motion animated reinvention of the famed Carlo Collodi story.
The classic tale follows a wooden marionette who is magically brought to life in order to mend the heart of a grieving woodcarver named Geppetto. The mischievous and disobedient boy sets out on adventures in his pursuit of a place in the world.
Del Toro & “Adventure Time” creative director Patrick McHale adapted the script for the film, shifting the setting to 1930s fascist Italy. Del Toro also co-directs with Mark Gustafson (“The PJs”).
The cast includes Gregory Mann as Pinocchio, Ewan McGregor as Cricket, David Bradley as Geppetto along with Finn Wolfhard, Cate Blanchett, John Turturro, Ron Perlman, Christoph Waltz, and Tilda Swinton.
“Pinocchio” will be released on the service this December.
