Paramount PIctures

Following its premiere on Paramount+ earlier this year, the 4K Ultra HD remaster of the director’s cut of “Star Trek: The Motion Picture” is finally coming to disc on September 6th and is bringing two friends along with it.

The updated and restored 2001 Director’s Cut version of the original Robert Wise-helmed 1979 film will make the leap to a standalone 4K disc release in Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos along with multiple audio commentaries including one by Wise, Douglas Trumbull and Jerry Goldsmith among others.

There will also be a bonus Blu-ray disc with a ton of extras including an eight-part documentary, deleted scenes, effects & costume tests, graphics and more.

There will also be a ‘Limited-Edition Collector’s Set’ version containing an additional 4K Ultra HD disc boasting both the theatrical cut of the film, and the first-ever widescreen presentation of the longer 1983 TV version of the film.

That’s not all though, the same day (September 6th) will see both a box-set of all six as well as individual releases of the other five original crew films coming including both “Star Trek V: The Final Frontier” and “Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country” making their debuts in 4K Ultra HD with the sixth film also sporting a director’s cut.

Previously only the theatrical versions of the first four were available in a 4K boxset.
