Showtime Plans Supreme Court Docu Series
Focus Features

Showtime Documentary Films has announced it has greenlit a four-part documentary series entitled “Confirmed” to be directed by Dawn Porter (“Gideon’s Army,” “The Way I See It”).

The series will document the history of the court, the justices, decisions and the confirmation battles that have shaped the United States from the right to privacy, voting access, civil rights and bodily autonomy.

Though it has been in the work for months, the announcement comes in the wake of the increased spotlight on the court in recent months and weeks after its landmark ruling to reverse Roe v. Wade last week made global headlines. In a statement, Porter says:

“We’ve been working on this series for months now, but I’ve recently began to describe it as a thriller. “We literally are trying to keep up with a seemingly never-ending story of change.

Showtime had the presence of mind to commission this project well before we knew what monumental shifts would occur during production. We hope everyone will tune in to learn more about one of the most powerful influences in America.

The Supreme Court determines our fundamental rights and privileges. We all need to know how it works.”

Trilogy Films and Sony Pictures Television are backing the project which will air in 2023.
