Netflix has reportedly pulled the plug on several animated projects including the Ava DuVernay-produced “Wings of Fire” series, the preschooler-aimed “Antiracist Baby” series, and the kids show “With Kind Regards From Kindergarten”.
“Stamped: Racism, Antiracism and You,” a documentary intended to serve as a companion piece to the hybrid documentary and scripted feature “Stamped From the Beginning,” has also been cancelled. ‘Beginning’ is still moving forward and is currently in post-production.
Netflix sources stress the decisions to scrap these projects were creative rather than cost related. The news comes as the company has laid off roughly 2% of its workforce to cut costs after a weak start to 2022.
Netflix will still heavily invest in animation as numerous Dreamworks and anime series are set for the streamer.
