Celebrated “You Were Never Really Here” and “We Need to Talk About Kevin” filmmaker Lynne Ramsay will direct a film adaptation of “The Handmaid’s Tale” author Margaret Atwood’s novel “Stone Mattress”.
Julianne Moore and Sandra Oh will star in the film about Verna, a sixty-year-old retired physiotherapist and twice a widow, who embarks on a luxurious cruise into the silently thawing Arctic Northwest Passage.
Onboard she meets the friendly and charming Grace (Oh), and the seemingly ordinary Bob, an unaccompanied man around her age who inherited a family business and tries to seduce her.
However he might not be the foolish yet harmless man he initially appears to be, and his presence troubles Verna. As wounds and humiliations from her past resurface, her quiet yet shocking act of vengeance will change everything.
Amazon are already attached to produce while Film 4 and StudioCanal are in final negotiations. John Lesher and JoAnne Sellar produce and filming begins in Greenland and Iceland in September.
