The other week came the news that MGM motion picture group chairman Michael De Luca and president Pam Abdy were leaving that studio following its acquisition by Amazon.
Now, Variety reports that the pair are in talks to join Warner Bros. Discovery as film executives.
Various scenarios are reportedly being discussed including having De Luca and Abdy launch a movie label within the Warner Bros. Pictures group, or enlisting them to take roles within the division itself.
A key negotiating point is reportedly allowing them access to DC Entertainment in some capacity – giving them rights to develop characters and properties they would produce.
New CEO David Zaslav is said to be looking at ways to reconfigure or reimagine its film division and maximizing DC’s output is a top priority. Should De Luca come onboard he’d likely report directly to Zaslav as opposed to Warner Bros. Pictures chief Toby Emmerich.
The move isn’t happening immediately as the two have kept their word to stay through the summer at MGM. Still, the pair bring with them plenty of experience.
De Luca in particular has a long list of credits stretching back to the 1990s during his famed tenure at New Line before becoming a successful producer in his own right on films such as “The Social Network,” “Moneyball,” and “Captain Phillips”. He also has good connections with filmmakers such as Paul Thomas Anderson, Joe Wright, Ridley Scott and Ron Howard.
