Filming has begun at the Village Roadshow Studios in Queensland, Australia on the Disney+ service’s “Nautilus,” a live-action series re-telling of Jules Verne’s “20,000 Leagues Under The Sea”.

Former “Spooks” and “Star Trek: Discovery” star Shazad Latif takes on the lead role of Captain Nemo alongside Thierry Fremont as the submarine’s French engineer and architect Gustave Benoit, and Georgia Flood as the privileged British woman Humility Lucas who is taken hostage.

Moonriver Studios and Seven Stories are backing the project which also stars Pacharo Mzembe, Arlo Green, Tyrone Ngatai, Ling Cooper Tang, Andrew Shaw, Ashan Kumar, Céline Menville and Kayden Price.

The series is considered one of the streamer’s most high profile to be made outside of the U.S. – one of sixty international originals the company plans to make over the next two years.
