Kathy Bates, John Malkovich and Lewis Pullman have signed on to star in Ken Kwapis-directed and Andrew Farotte-penned indie drama feature “Thelma”.
The feature follows the true story tale of Thelma Toole, mother of Pulitzer Prize-winning “A Confederacy of Dunces” author John Kennedy Toole (Pullman).
When the young Toole committed suicide in 1969 before finding a home for his masterpiece, Thelma (Bates) made it her life’s mission to see the book published.
With the help of some outrageous actions, she succeeded in getting the manuscript into the hands of writer Walker Percy (Malkovich) who then went on to champion it.
The book was published in 1980 and became a widely celebrated cult classic. Steven P. Wegner and Johnny Lin will produce.
