Rafe Judkins, showrunner on Amazon’s big-budget fantasy series adaptation “The Wheel of Time,” says he sees the show potentially running for up to eight seasons according to Deadline
The series, based on the novels by Robert Jordan, will premiere its first season next Friday on Amazon Prime and is already in production on its second season. Judkins says he believes the books will work better as a series:
“I think Wheel of Time lends itself better to a television series. That’s why I think now is the right moment for it to finally exist because people who know that books know it’s just a story about the characters and the journeys each of them is on. The amount you’d have to compress it to turn it into a series of movies is too much. It would take away the heart of what’s good about it.”
Judkins also isn’t fussed about the recasting of core character Mat Cauthon as actor Donal Finn will take over the role from Barney Harris who exited after a single season. He says: “I think it’s a testament to this character and how great the character of Mat is that it really feels seamless between the two actors.”
The sprawling epic unfolds in a world where magic exists and only certain women are allowed to access it. Rosamund Pike plays Moiraine, a member of the Aes Sedai, who embarks on a dangerous world-spanning journey with five young men and women – one of whom is prophesied to be the Dragon Reborn.
Josha Stradowski, Marcus Rutherford, Zoe Robins, Madeleine Madden and Daniel Henney also star.
