AMC+ and See-Saw Films have released first-look images from “Firebite,” the Australia-set vampire fantasy series which hails from celebrated “Sweet Country” and “Samson and Delilah” director Warwick Thornton.

The eight-episode series follows two Indigenous Australian hunters – a reckless man full of bravado and a 17-year-old orphan – on their quest to battle the last stronghold of vampires shipped from Britain to Australia in 1788 by the colonial superpower to eradicate the Indigenous populations.

Said stronghold is a remote South Australian desert mining town where the creatures shelter from the sun in the underground mines and tunnels that surround the town. The colony’s numbers and hunger is growing and war is coming.

The series is created, directed, and written by Thornton who is working alongside Brendan Fletcher (“Mad Bastards”) and Tony Krawitz (“The Tall Man”) with the latter also directing.

Shot on location in Coober Pedy and Adelaide Studios, the series stars Yael Stone, Rob Collins, Callan Mulvey and Shantae Barnes-Cowan and will release episodes every Thursday starting on December 16th.

Thornton’s three-hour docuseries “The Beach” will be played on a continuous loop as part of A24’s Screening Room from November 22nd-28th.
