Blum Talks “Halloween Kills” Peacock Release

Blum Talks Halloween Kills Peacock Release
Universal Pictures

Blumhouse Productions has the Jamie Lee Curtis-led “Halloween Kills” set to hit both cinemas and streamer Peacock on October 15th and is on track to hit at least $50 million.

News of the day-and-date Peacock release surprised many and left some obvious questions. Speaking with Collider, producer Jason Blum recently revealed it wasn’t Universal that asked for it – he himself made the decision:

“It was my idea to do it. [Peacock] didn’t approach me. I approached them. I, like everyone else, am a big believer in the theatrical experience. I think eventually I think there should be windows.

I think Universal’s strategy of the three-week window is a great strategy, but I had a bad distribution experience with ‘Freaky’. That movie is a great movie, and it didn’t get seen because the distribution of it got all twisted up. My fault.

I didn’t want to go through that experience again. I didn’t want to have a movie that I’m really proud of that I think is great and have there be an excuse why people didn’t see it. So I’m the one who pitched Universal. And then I pitched Jamie and David, and it was my idea. I stand behind it. I’m glad that we’re doing it.”

He also says he plans to go back to a traditional theatrical window for the upcoming “Halloween Ends”. A new Dolby poster for the film has also been released and can be seen below, as has a new featurette about the returning characters from the original film.

Finally today, it has been revealed by Deadline that Blum is set to team with producer Tyler Perry on a thriller entitled “Help” with Alan McElroy (“Star Trek: Discovery”) set to write and direct. Cameras will roll in Atlanta next year at the Tyler Perry Studios.
