Actor Vin Diesel, out doing promotional rounds for the recently released “F9: The Fast Saga,” has confirmed that a fourth “Riddick” movie is on the way with the main issue at the moment being timing.
Going by the working title “Furya,” writer/director David Twohy has reportedly completed the script and speaking with Games Radar, it seems the production will return to Australia where the first film “Pitch Black” was shot:
“[Director] David Twohy, he wrote a great script. It’s just a matter of timing when we get that opportunity to shoot that. But I believe we’re shooting that in Australia… So it’s safe to say that we are moving towards filming the fourth chapter of Riddick.”
He adds that the film could also see another ‘Riddick’ game come along which would follow in the footsteps of 2004’s “Escape from Butcher Bay” which scored rave reviews and won some awards. That game was then remastered and incorporated into the larger “Assault on Dark Athena” game title five years later:
“We did have great success with Escape From Butcher Bay. It feels like an eternity ago now. But, I imagine that we would take advantage of the gaming space and add an extra chapter, but definitely, the [movie’s] script is already written.”
When Diesel will shoot the film is unclear. He’s currently readying to voice his Groot role in James Gunn’s “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” which will shoot in the back half of this year and has the films “Muscle” and “Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em Robots” in development.
Then there’s “Fast 10” with the two-part movie production taking place throughout much of 2022 which all suggests another “Riddick” won’t be shooting until late 2022 or 2023.
