Stone, Dafoe Lead Lanthimos’ “Poor Things”

Emma Stone is in talks to star and Willem Dafoe is in discussions to join celebrated “The Favorite” and “The Lobster” director Yorgos Lanthimos’ new film “Poor Things” at Searchlight and Film4.

An adaptation of Scottish writer Alasdair Gray’s 1992 novel, the project is something of a clever spin on “Frankenstein”. A Victorian tale of love, discovery and scientific daring, it follows the incredible tale of Belle Baxter – a young woman brought back to life by an eccentric but brilliant scientist.

Lanthimos will helm from a script by Tony McNamara. He and Stone will also produce. Dafoe has multiple films on the way including Wes Anderson’s “The French Dispatch,” Robert Eggers’ “The Northman,” Guillermo del Toro’s “Nightmare Alley,” and Paul Schrader’s “The Card Counter”.
