He’s a legend, but one thing filmmaker John Carpenter is also famous for is his bluntness.
Even when out promoting some other’s remakes of his past works, such as 2005’s terrible “The Fog,” Carpenter made it very clear he was only involved for the money and famously said “no comment” when asked about the film’s quality.
With “Halloween” he admits he’s not seen a bunch of the sequels, and famously slammed Rob Zombie’s reboot. Even 2018’s well-regarded semi-reboot of the series his highest praise was along the lines of “this was as good as I’ve seen since we did the first movie.”
Recently he sat down for an interview with EW to promote his latest album – “Lost Themes III: Life After Deat” – and spoke about the upcoming “Halloween Kills”. ‘Kills’ serves as a direct sequel to the 2018 film. In both cases, Carpenter served as an executive producer and handled the score.
Yet while the 2018 film he was upbeat about, with ‘Kills’ he sounds downright enthusiastic saying: “It’s brilliant. It’s the ultimate slasher. I mean, there’s nothing more than this one. Wow! Man.”
This is similar to comments he made last year when discussing the film which he’d just seen saying: “It’s the quintessential slasher film. It is so intense…oh my god…it even stuns me how incredible it is. [Director] David [Gordon Green] just did a great job. Can’t wait to have you see it.”
However good “Halloween Kills” turns out to be, we’ll find out on October 15th.
