The diaries of the late and great actor Alan Rickman will be published as a book in the Fall of 2022.
Rickman’s journals reportedly covered everything from his thoughts on acting to insights on friendships and politics. An avid theater-goer, he also reviewed plays he attended and shared behind-the-scenes stories from the set of films such as the “Harry Potter” series.
Rickman began writing his journals in his early forties around the turn of 1990s, just after his success with “Die Hard” and around the time of “Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves”.
He documented his career, with the intention of publishing it, over not just the ‘Potter’ films but other classics like “Love, Actually,” “Sense and Sensibility” and “Galaxy Quest”.
Rickman journaled until his death from pancreatic cancer in 2016, ultimately penning down 27 volumes spanning more than 25 years. All of it will be edited down into a single book from publisher Canongate.
Alan Taylor, editor of the Scottish Review of Books, will handle the editing of the diaries which he says are: “anecdotal, indiscreet, witty, gossipy and utterly candid.”
