Quick News: Expanse, Magic, Mutants, High

The Expanse
Amazon’s “The Expanse” has received a panel for New York Comic-Con later this week – specifically Thursday at 5:10pm US-EDT. The show’s cast and creators will take part to discuss the upcoming fifth season of the highly acclaimed sci-fi series.

Unlike most shows caught short by the pandemic, ‘Expanse’ wrapped filming on its fifth season a few weeks before the global pandemic shut down productions. Hopefully the panel will yield both a potential first trailer and premiere date. [Source: Twitter]

Untitled Magic Johnson Series
Rick Famuyiwa (“Dope,” “The Mandalorian”) will direct the upcoming docuseries on Lakers great Earvin ‘Magic’ Johnson. Famuyiwa will work alongside editor Dirk Westervelt (“Ford Vs. Ferrari”) and Rachel Morrison (“Black Panther”) with pre-production already underway.

The seriescurrently lacks a title, but is expected to be completed in 2021 and features archival footage of the Basketball Hall of Famer’s on-court heroics, as well as interviews with Johnson, his family, teammates, and business associates. Johnson’s accomplishments in the world of basketball include five championships, three MVP titles, twelve All Star games and one Olympic gold medal. [Source: Variety]

Super High
Andy Samberg, Craig Robinson and Common are set to all produce and star in the stoner action-comedy “Super High” at New Line Cinema, Party Over Here, 3 Arts and Narrative.

The project is described as a superhero movie where smoking a special strain of weed gives superpowers to the smoker. Adam Mansbach, who penned the book” Go the F–k to Sleep,” will write the screenplay based on a story he created with Shamier Anderson. [Source: Variety]
