PS5 First Impressions Reveal Small New Details

The PS5 had a hands-on impression event in Japan over the weekend where some more details were garnered. First up, numerous reports indicate the new console is near silent even after serious gameplay sessions – a far cry from the PS4’s infamous jet engine noise on some key titles.

In addition the buttons of Sony’s DualSense controller’s are also said to be noticeably quieter than the PS4’s controller. Sony has also made the decision to make “X” the standard confirm button for all regions, including Japan where “O” was always the confirm button.

The DualSense controller also boasts not just different colors of LED lights in the bars, but also small white light dots indicating what player number you are if playing in co-op. Photos have discovered a mysterious silver latch or bolt in the vents along the top of the console. It’s been suggested this latch locks in the side panels allowing them to be removed and extra SSD storage to be added.

Plenty of photos of the console and controller in person are up at 4gamer.net.

Over at Microsoft, they’ve been handing out early units of the Xbox Series X and the verdict is also extremely good. Game loading is extremely fast with the ‘quick resume’ feature allowing a switch from playing one game to another in just 6-8 seconds.

Actual game loading is also much faster – “Red Dead Redemption II” now loads up in 38 seconds (not 128 seconds), while “Control” shrank from one minute to about ten seconds. The console has also been highly praised for its near silence and push to do 60fps where possible.

Both consoles are set to arrive next month, expect more details shortly.
