Quaid Slams “Days of Thunder 2” Casting

Paramount Pictures

Actor Randy Quaid, who co-starred in the original “Days of Thunder,” has expressed unhappiness over the casting of Anne Hathaway in the upcoming sequel.

Hathaway’s casting was revealed in a video posted by Tom Cruise yesterday with the pair appearing alongside a NASCAR race car to announce the film’s June 2028 release.

Taking to X, Quaid wrote: “We need Nicole [Kidman] back. Don’t be a p-ssy, [Tom Cruise]. You need the original girl. It’s not personal; it’s filmmaking. Anne isn’t sexy, because and if you haven’t noticed, she’s pregnant. If I were in control of production, a real sequel worth watching for DAYS OF THUNDER would be seeing Tom and Nicole together on screen again. We don’t need a new girl; we need a new race car!”

He then went further in a follow-up post: “Anne Hathaway is a leftist, woke, horrible choice for ‘DAYS OF THUNDER’ NASCAR audience who are MAGA. The sexy older chick for Tom in this film needs to be Nicole. That’s the casting that would sell the idea. It’s interesting because when we made the first one there was also a rush to get it out; editors slept in the cutting room on shifts. This is a weird thing, like they want it to come out and tank.”

Reps for the studio or actors didn’t respond. Quaid plays Tim Daland, the owner of the racing team that recruits Cruise’s driver Cole Trickle in the original. Kidman played Dr. Claire Lewicki, the romantic lead. Robert Duvall, Cary Elwes and John C. Reilly also starred.

Shot for IMAX, filming gets underway shortly with Jonathan Levine directing from a script by Will Staples. Jerry Bruckheimer and Tommy Harper will produce. “Days of Thunder 2” opens on June 2nd 2028.
