Hot on the heels of the announcement that James Bond film “No Time to Die” will open April 2nd 2021, Universal Pictures has also delayed “F9: The Fast Saga”.
The film was originally slated for a May 22nd release this year but was pushed to April 2nd 2021. It will now be moved back a further few weeks and arrive for Memorial Day weekend on May 28th 2021 – like Bond it has now ultimately moved back one full year from its original release.
Universal is distributing both films internationally. The film’s co-star John Cena recently appeared on “The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon” and told him that the movie, tipped to be the second to last in the main franchise, will start bringing it all together:
“The newest instalment…everybody knows Fast is going to kill it when it comes to action. The thing I love about Fast 9 is people are going to see it weave that legacy together. It’s not nearly ‘What is Fast gonna do next for action;’ it is action on the edge of your seat, but story. If you’re a fan of the franchise, you get questions answered, you get new questions you can develop, it’s another foothold to the narrative. That’s the stuff that I love.”
“F9′ sees Dominic Toretto and his family facing off against Dominic’s younger brother Jakob Toretto (John Cena), a deadly assassin, who is working with their old enemy Cipher (Charlize Theron). The film sees the return of Han (Sung Kang) and will apparently go into space at one point.
