TV News: Live, Unicorn, Snow, Sex, Is, Pretty

Saturday Night Live
Chris Rock will host the season premiere of “Saturday Night Live” on October 3rd. The show, which kicks off its 46th season, will be back at its regular studio at Rockefeller Center – the first time it has shot there since March.

This will be Rock’s third appearance as host following his stint as a cast member on from 1990 to 1993. Rock will be joined by musical guest Megan Thee Stallion who is making her debut on the show. [Source: CNN]

The Unicorn & Evil
The first seasons of CBS’ “The Unicorn” and “Evil” are heading to Netflix on October 1st as part of a non-exclusive licensing deal struck between the streamer and CBS Television Studios ahead of their second season network returns.

Both series will continue to stream their freshman seasons on CBS All Access which will also have the second seasons of both shows when they come out. The aim is obviously to generate more exposure for both shows, something series such as “Good Girls,” “Riverdale” and of course “Schitt’s Creek” benefitted from. [Source: Variety]

Smilla’s Sense of Snow
Acclaimed British director Amma Asante (“Mrs America”) will direct a drama series adaptation of Peter Hoeg’s acclaimed novel “Smilla”s Sense of Snow” for Constantin Film. Julia Ormond led the previous film adaptation in 1997.

The series follows Smilla Jaspersen, whose investigation into the mysterious death of an immigrant Inuit child from the projects evolves into a much grander supernatural epic. Her search for answers sets her on a journey to her native home of Greenland. [Source: Variety]

Sex Education
Three more names have joined the cast of the third season of Netflix’s “Sex Education” which recently resumed production in the UK. Jemima Kirke will play Moordale’s new headmistress Hope, Jason Isaacs will play Mr Groff’s more successful/less modest older brother Peter, while Dua Saleh will play a student named Cal who clashes with hope. New episodes will hit the streamer in 2021. [Source: Twitter]

This Is Us
Production has officially resumed on “This Is Us” today for its delayed fifth season. The restart comes just hours after NBC announced that it was moving up the show’s two-hour fall return by two weeks, from November 10th to October 27th. The upcoming season will reportedly tackle life during the global pandemic “head-on”. [Source: TV Line]

Pretty Little Liars
It’s official, HBO Max has ordered “Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin,” a revival of the former Freeform hit with “Riverdale” chief Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa serving as showrunner. Aguirre-Sacasa will co-write the series alongside Lindsay Calhoon Bring. Original series creator I. Marlene King is not involved.

Set two decades later in the present day, a group of disparate teen girls – a brand-new set of Little Liars – find themselves tormented by an unknown assailant and made to pay for the secret sin their parents committed two decades ago… as well as their own. [Source: The Live Feed]
