In the wake of the announcement of the “Shazam” sequel’s title “Shazam! Fury of the Gods” at DC FanDome, star Zachary Levi has now gone into some more details about production on this follow-up to the well regarded 2019 DC superhero film.
In a recent interview with Dan Fogler’s 4D Xperience, Levi revealed that the studio is planning to begin filming on the movie by the first quarter of next year.
He also addressed the need to avoid any major delays due to the kid actors’ inevitable growth spurts. Levi says:
“They announced that we were gonna do a sequel pretty much right after we premiered. They knew we were tracking well enough, they were happy enough with the numbers. So they have been steadily and earnestly working on the script for the sequel and I think Q1 of next year is the idea. COVID has kind of made everything a little bit up in the air, but very much the intent is to make another one. We gotta get to it fast, the kids are growing fast.”
Levi also spoke briefly about a potential “Black Adam” crossover with Dwayne Johnson and from the sounds of it, the project is unlikely. He says:
“That’s well above my pay grade. I have no idea. The Rock is his own planet. He kind of does whatever [he wants], The Rock does what The Rock wanna do. So we’ll see how that all plays out. But per the comic books, Black Adam and Captain Marvel – my true namesake – they’re yin and yang to one another. They are identical.”
At last report screenwriter Henry Gayden was returning to craft the script while director David F. Sandberg is also back. Jack Dylan Grazer, Marta Milans, Asher Angel, Meagan Good, Faithe Herman, and Adam Brody are all returning for the film currently slated to open November 2022.
