Paramount and Netflix are set to end their animated film pact. The deal was first announced in 2023 between Netflix and Skydance Animation (which is now under Paramount post-merger).
In a joint statement, the two companies say they remain committed to the releases of the two remaining films on their slate together – Brad Bird’s sci-fi noir “Ray Gunn” and Rich Moore’s currently untitled Jack and the Beanstalk film.
In addition, John Lasseter’s “Cosmic Motors” will now get a full theatrical rollout from Paramount Pictures sometime next year.
The company says in a statement:
“Netflix and Paramount have mutually agreed to conclude their animated film agreement. Both companies remain fully committed to the successful releases of Ray Gunn and the untitled Jack and the Beanstalk project on Netflix, and additionally will continue their longstanding content licensing relationship. We are proud of our collaboration to date and look forward to bringing these upcoming films to audiences around the world.”
Skydance Animation’s “Swapped” became one of Netflix’s most-watched movies of all time with 144.9 million global views, a bigger success than the pair’s first film together “Spellbound” which fizzled on release back in late 2024.
Lasseter leads Skydance Animation, which is a stand-alone label under Paramount Pictures, and it operates independently from the Jennifer Doge-led Paramount Animation.
Paramount will continue licensing content to Netflix, including shows like “Matlock,” “SEAL Team” and “NCIS”.
