Gunn: No “Squad” Or “Guardians 3” Delay

James Gunn is remaining busy in quarantine. The filmmaker wrapped shooting on “The Suicide Squad” earlier this year and is well into post on it. He’s also slated to shoot the upcoming third “Guardians of the Galaxy” film.

Answering fans questions on his Twitter account over the Easter holiday, Gunn says the DC Comics adaptation and semi-reboot of the ‘Squad’ franchise is moving along as planned and so there’s no reason for it to shift its August 6th 2021 release.

Gunn says: “Right now there’s no reason for ‘The Suicide Squad’ release date to move. We are on or ahead of schedule. We were extremely fortunate to wrap shooting and set up editing from our homes (due to a post production team and studio with foresight) before quarantine.”

He goes on to say editing of the film has been “pretty smooth in the time of quarantine” but some of the other more external factors have slowed – including the release of publicity materials like photos and trailers.

As for the next ‘Guardians’ film he says: “Right now the plans with ‘Vol. 3′ are also exactly the same as they were before coronavirus.”

The comments come as the first “Suicide Squad” director David Ayer admitted on Twitter this weekend that Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn character had her story arc “eviscerated” and went on to say: “it was her movie in so many ways. Look I tried. I rendered Harley comic book accurate. Everything is political now. Everything. I just want to entertain. I will do better.”
