No San Diego Comic-Con Delay As Yet

The organisers of San Diego Comic-Con say they are ‘hopeful’ that the event will still take place in late July as planned.

The well wishes come despite increasing concern that holding the largest fan convention in the country is dangerous given the current coronavirus climate, and events of all kinds have been canceled around it.

Considering this is a convention in which 130,000 or more people from all over the world come together, share packed spaces for several days, then return home – the chances of an infection spread seem high.

In a statement on Twitter, the organizers say they are taking a wait-and-see approach:

“To our amazing Comic-Con and WonderCon fans: We understand how difficult the current climate has been for all of us and appreciate your continued support through these trying times. No one is as hopeful as we are that we will be able to celebrate #SDCC2020 together come July.

As we continue to monitor the situation with local authorities, we will post updates on our social channels! Until then, remember: ‘A hero is an ordinary individual who finds strength to persevere and endure in spite of overwhelming obstacles.’ – Christopher Reeve”

Comic-Con remains scheduled to take place from July 23rd-26th. Comic-Con International previously postponed WonderCon, its other major fan convention based in Anaheim, which was due to run from April 10th-12th.
