Premium cabler Starz has announced that, through the end of March, it will be offering access to a select number of titles through its streaming app without the need of a subscription.
Those without subscriptions can access the full first seasons of both “Black Sails” and “Vida,” and will have access to the pilots of basically every Starz original series including the likes of “American Gods,” “Ash vs Evil Dead,” “Da Vinci’s Demons,” “Magic City,” “Now Apocalypse,” “Outlander,” “Party Down,” “Power,” “Spartacus,” “Survivor’s Remorse,” “Sweetbitter,” “The Rook,” “The White Queen” and many more.
This follows on from a rush of boutique streaming services who are taking advantage of the captive audience with self quarantining to offer far longer ‘free trial periods’ than usual in order to entice potential customers.
Shudder is offering new members a 30-day free trial (promo code: ‘SHUTIN’) for its library of horror, thriller and genre fare. Acorn TV is doing the same for all its British programming for American audiences (promo code: ‘FREE30′). Also Magnolia Pictures’ genre channel DOX has reduced its annual subscription by half to just $14.99 for a limited time.
The Starz news comes as one of its more acclaimed shows, “Vida,” was cancelled this week with the show’s upcoming third season on April 26th to be its last.
