Netflix, Ahmed, Russos Team For “Exit West”

“Avengers: Endgame” helmers Joe and Anthony Russo and their AGBO production are teaming with both Netflix and Michelle and Barack Obama’s Higher Ground Productions on a film adaptation of Mohsin Hamid’s bestselling novel “Exit West”.

The story follows a young couple, Saeed and Nadia, who live in an unnamed city undergoing civil war and finally have to flee, using a system of magical doors which lead to different locations around the globe. The allegorical tale contrasts migrants’ tenuous daily reality and the privileged second- or third-generation native population.

Riz Ahmed (“Venom,” “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story”) is attached to star and executive produce the film which Yann Demange (“’71,” “White Boy Rick”) is directing – replacing the previously attached Morten Tyldum (“The Imitation Game”). Jessica Goldberg penned a previous draft, but a new writer is now being sought.

Mike Larocca, Tonia Davis and Priya Swaminathan are producing and shooting aims to begin in the Spring.
