Production Halts On The “Shantaram” Series

Production has officially been halted on the long in the works “Shantaram” TV series at Apple TV+ due to the scripts not being done in time reports Variety.

Charlie Hunnam leads the upcoming series based on Gregory David Roberts’ novel which follows a drug-addicted former bank robber that runs away to Mumbai to help reinvent himself

The trade report indicates writer-showrunner Eric Warren Singer (“Top Gun: Maverick,” “American Hustle”) hasn’t been able to keep the scripts coming in time, leading to a backlog.

As a result, the series is taking a break to allow Singer to catch up and get the production back on track. Only two episodes are said to be completed at this time, and while outlines for all ten episodes have been done – the delay is expected to last several months to give the writer time to get ahead of the schedule.

Another showrunner will also be brought in to help shepherd the series along. Filmmaker Justin Kurzel has previously been signed to direct five of the ten episodes, but this hiatus might affect that.
