The first photos have been released from “Connected,” the Phil Lord and Chris Miller-produced CG animated sci-fi comedy formerly titled “The Mitchells Vs The Machines”.
The story follows an ordinary family who, like everyone else in the world, have become overly dependent on their phones. But this becomes a problem when all the electronic devices around the world gain sentience and turn on humanity in a global tech uprising.
Michael Rianda (“Gravity Falls”) helms and co-writes the film with Jeff Rowe. “Broad City” alum Abbi Jacobson, actors/comedians Danny McBride and Maya Rudolph, Eric Andre, and Rianda himself lend their voices to the film. – as does Oscar winner Olivia Colman as a villainous voice assistant.
Some of the state-of-the-art animation technology developed for “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” will be utilised here to show a human world with a grittier and more hand-drawn style while the robots will be “all CG shine and chrome”.
“Connected” opens in cinemas September 18th 2020.
