“Mandy” Director Would Like A Cage Re-Team

For a good decade or so, actor Nicolas Cage has been stuck in films that never really were a good fit for him and his… unique and eccentric talent. Every now and then he found something that clicked – “Joe,” “Kick-Ass,” “Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans,” and more recently “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse”.

Yet those haven’t gotten him the kind of critical raves he’s received for Panos Cosmatos’ trippy horror-thriller “Mandy” which is popping up on quite a few best films of the year lists. Only the second film for Cosmatos following 2010’s “Beyond the Black Rainbow,” the pairing of him and Cage worked out great and as he seemingly knows how to handle the actor properly. Speaking with Heat Vision, he explains why that is and hints they may re-team in the near future:

“Yeah. We’ve talked. I know we would like to work with each other again… I just have a huge amount of admiration for him as a performer and his range of ability, and having this chance to work with him, I really wanted to tap into almost every aspect of his ability. And hopefully in a way that feels organic and integral to the movie. But I really didn’t want to miss this opportunity to play with Nicolas Cage. I mean, how often do you get a Nicolas Cage action figure to play with?”

Cosmatos goes on to say he hasn’t yet figured out what his next film is, but says he feels happy working in the low-budget realm as it allows him to: “do stuff that is a little bit more esoteric, and personal.”
