Bold Films and Nine Stories have acquired the film rights to this year’s acclaimed contained Danish thriller “The Guilty” and have attached Jake Gyllenhaal to star in and produce.
Winning the world cinema audience award at this year’s Sundance Film Festival and Denmark’s foreign-language Oscar entry for this year, the story follows a police officer who has been under investigation and demoted to desk work at an emergency responder call center.
When he receives a terrified phone call from a kidnapped woman, he must battle his internal demons in order to save her. Like “Locke” or “Phone Booth,” the film was notable for its single setting with the action unfolding entirely within the responder’s office.
Riva Marker, Michel Litvak, Gustav Möoler, Lina Flint, Gary Michael Walters, David Litvak, and Svetlana Metkina will also produce.
