This past week saw a new rumor spring up about J.J. Abrams’ “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker,” one that got quite a bit of traction.
Many have been wondering if Abrams will use the film as a chance to retcon some of the plot twists Rian Johnson created with “Star Wars: The Last Jedi,” one of which was that Rey’s parents were revealed to be no-one of note.
The recent rumor however, which began on the MakingStarWars Patreon Podcast, suggests her father might have actually been Han Solo himself when he hooked up with someone after he and Leia split.
“Star Wars” executive Pablo Hidalgo has shot down this report pretty succinctly now, saying on Twitter: “That doesn’t fit with the timeline. Han and Leia were together up until about 5 years before ‘The Force Awakens’ when it all went to hell, and Rey is 19.”
Hidalgo is helping to craft the future stories of the franchise at Lucasfilm and has proven a reliable source for shooting down dodgy reports in the past. Whatever Abrams does about Rey’s parents, we’ll find out when the film opens December 20th.
