A few months ago actor Corey Feldman effectively confirmed that the long in the works sequel to 1985 family adventure “The Goonies” was dead.
Today, his co-star Martha Plimpton has backed up that assessment saying she doesn’t believe the sequel will ever get off the ground. Talking about it in a Reddit AMA, Plimpton said:
“I can tell you that I really wouldn’t expect it. It’s been teased for decades and I don’t think it’s going to happen. At least, as far as I know. I think [director] Dick Donner, who is a brilliantly funny man, likes to torture us all with the prospect. I believe it’s his revenge for having been tortured by all of us for six months in 1984.”
Feldman previously said that despite the talk of doing it, there is no script in place, no one can figure out the story, and Donner is 87 years old and so may not want to pursue it – with much of the cast not interested unless Donner returns.
Plimpton’s nerdy Stef character reportedly served as direct inspiration for Barb in Netflix’s “Stranger Things” series.
