Netflix has revealed plans to begin offering interactive features on some of its original shows, including the critically acclaimed “Black Mirror” which returns for its fifth season in December, which will enable viewers to choose their own endings.
Bloomberg announced the news, saying the projects will be released before the end of the year and will utilise the kind of tech already on some kids shows already on Netflix including “Puss in Book”. Along with “Black Mirror,” Netflix has closed a deal for one other live-action series and is in the final stages of other deals.
Interactive elements have previously been incorporated into reality shows, but scripted works still only utilise the technology to minor extent. Notable narrative works to adopt this approach in recent years have included HBO’s “Mosaic” and PS4-exclusive title “Until Dawn”.
