After co-directing the first “John Wick” and helming the sequel all on his own, director Chad Stahelski has scored a new high-profile gig – the reboot of the “Highlander” franchise at Lionsgate.
Stahelski has signed on to direct the long-gestating remake of the 1980s fantasy classic starring Christopher Lambert, Sean Connery and Clancy Brown as immortal beings, hunting down one another through the centuries and collecting more power. The film spawned four sequels and three television series.
A search for new scribes to work with Stahelski is about to get underway, while Neal H. Moritz and Peter Davis are producing. Stahelski is the latest hire on the project which has been in the works for almost a decade and has had the likes of Justin Lin, Juan Carlos Fresnadillo and Cedric Nicolas-Troyan attached at points.
Stahelski just wrapped “John Wick: Chapter 2” and is slated to film the action thriller “Triple Threat” starring Tony Jaa, Tiger Chen and Iko Uwais. That will likely go before “Highlander” which has yet to set a production start date.
