“John Wick” Helmer On Sequels &”Matrix 4″ Talk

John Wick Helmer On Sequels Matrix 4 Talk

Looking like it will take in $55 million for the weekend, coming in well ahead of expectations, “John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum” is a big success for Lionsgate.

While some suggested before release this might be the final one, when you see the film you know the movie is far from a final chapter – rather it’s just another sequel and one with plot threads that keep on going.

Talking with EW this week, director Chad Stahelski says he and star Keanu Reeves are at no loss for ideas or possibilities when it comes to the future of the character:

“I enjoy making these movies because there’s no limit…We create our own mythology, and we have a studio (Lionsgate) that both stays out of our way and supports us on the wacky decisions. If people go see the movie, and it makes money, and they came back to us, Keanu and I have ideas for days. It’s a fun world. I could live here for the rest of my career. If people like it and want to watch more, I could think of way worse ways to spend your career. We’ll let the audience figure that out.”

Stahelski also discussed “The Continental” TV series currently being developed at Starz which marks the first step to expand the ‘Wick’ world beyond the silver screen:

“Keanu and I have sat with that creative element and laid out what we feel makes John Wick special, and what would make the TV show unique. Now, it will be a round of back and forths. Lionsgate is in actual full development of it and it’s called The Continental. It should be fun.”

In a separate interview with The Playlist, Stahelski also discussed those fourth “The Matrix” rumors which a quote from him effectively got the talk rolling the other week. Stahelski takes the time to explain it was all hypothetical talk:

“All I was trying to say is – I was asked a lot about my experience with them and, you know, there’s been rumors floating around for a while about whether there is another [‘Matrix’ film] and what their involvement is.

My simple point was, look: it was such a great experience working with them and it was such a career-defining experience working with them, both for me, my partner David Leitch, for Keanu [Reeves], Laurence [Fishburne], all the people we still currently keep in contact with, that if – they were such a big influence and they were such fantastic mentors to all of us – if they were to be involved… I would retire back to action director just to be part of it and help them out, or lend myself to that project just for the experience of working with them again. That’s something.

So if [the Wachoswkis] were [going to make another ‘Matrix’] and that project does come to fruition with them helming it in some kind of capacity, I would feel like I would owe them and I would like my own career to be involved with it somehow. I would do craft services on that movie just to see it done.”

“John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum” is in cinemas everywhere now.
