Amazon Prime Video have unveiled the first photos from “Blade Runner 2099,” the upcoming TV series set within the world of the films.

The shots showcase the show’s stars Michelle Yeoh and Hunter Schafer in a radically transformed Los Angeles where humanity is no longer in control, and the replicants have won after an uprising.

Showrunner Silka Luisa tells EW in this series, the replicants are now the power brokers of the city and humans are second-class citizens.

Yeoh stars as Olwen, a replicant Blade Runner hunting a group of missing rogue replicants while approaching the predetermined end of her own lifespan: “She’s in the final days of her life, so she knows she has only days left to live because replicants know down to the day when they’re gonna die. It’s certain, and it’s definitive.”

Schafer plays Cora, a human fugitive who has spent her life running from Blade Runners but must now pretend to be one. She joins Olwen’s search for the missing replicants.

The look is also changed. The original film was rain-soaked, the sequel was wintry, the new series has a ‘sunshine noir filter’ – this future Los Angeles is hot and sticky. The production also aimed to do as much in camera and practical as possible.

The series will focus on all-new characters, but its central mystery will look “both forwards and backwards” through the franchise’s mythology. “Blade Runner 2049” scribe Michael Green helped develop the project while original “Blade Runner” director Ridley Scott executive produces and advised on the series.

The photos come ahead of the show getting a Comic Con panel tomorrow morning, with a first look trailer likely to debut along with a premiere date.
