Ten years after working together on college baseball film “Everybody Wants Some!,” actor Glen Powell and filmmaker Richard Linklater are re-teaming for a different kind of pitch hit.
Powell will play iconic New York Yankee player Lou Gehrig in a new and currently untitled biopic set up at Universal Pictures.
Linklater is attached to direct and Simon Rich is writing while Powell, Linklater, Lorne Michaels, Dan Cohen, and Erin David will produce.
Seven-time All-Star player Gehrig is considered one of the greatest baseball players of all time and played in a record 2,130 consecutive games.
He played his entire 17-year career with the Yankees, winning six World Series titles. It came to an abrupt halt when he was diagnosed with what would later be known as ALS – the neuromuscular disease commonly referred to as Lou Gehrig’s disease.
Gehrig ultimately died in 1941 at age 37. Gary Cooper played Gehrig in the 1942 drama “Pride of the Yankees”.
