Matthew Needham, best known for his roles as Larys Strong in HBO’s “House of the Dragon,” has scored a major voice role.
The actor will take on the role of the Clown Prince of Crime himself, The Joker, in the second season of Amazon Prime’s “Batman: Caped Crusader” animated series.
This version is said to be inspired by German expressionism and Conrad Veidt silent films. The result is a cold, stoic, sinister version of the character.
Needham’s casting was revealed at San Diego Comic-Con. The actor was a part of a panel alongside cast members Hamish Linklater (Bruce Wayne/Batman), Jamie Chung (Harley Quinn) and executive producers James Tucker and Geoffrey Thorne.
The second-season premiere episode was also screened ahead of the show’s return to screens next Friday, with all 10 episodes expected to drop at once.
The Riddler, Scarecrow, Roxy Rocket and The Mad Hatter all have their debuts here following The Penguin, Two-Face, Catwoman, Clayface, Harley Quinn and others showing up in the first season.
Alongside Linklater and Chung, the cast includes Eric Morgan Stuart as Commissioner Jim Gordon, John DiMaggio as Detective Harvey Bullock, Krystal Joy Brown as Barbara Gordon, Michelle C. Bonilla as Renee Montoya, Jason Watkins as Alfred Pennyworth, Bumper Robinson as Lucius Fox, Grey DeLisle as Lois Lane, William Salyers as Mayor Jessop and Gary Anthony Williams as Arnold Flass.
The series hails from executive producers J.J. Abrams, Matt Reeves and Bruce Timm, as well as James Tucker, Geoffrey Thorne, Sarah Geismer, Rachel Rusch Rich and Sam Register.
