Is The “Fast 8” Feud Just A Wrestlemania Stunt?

Has the recent feud between “Fast and the Furious” series co-stars Vin Diesel and Dwayne Johnson all just been a publicity stunt?

Life & Style reports that an unnamed source they know is declaring that the pair “are playing a huge prank, and it’s all for publicity… The Rock convinced Vin to amp up the drama between them so they could turn it into a WWE match to help promote the April 2017 release of ‘Fast 8’.”

That is possible. WWE’s Wrestlemania 33 takes place on April 2nd 2017, less than two weeks before “Fast 8” opens on April 14th. The feud itself is mostly being fuelled by media, with most of it tying back to Johnson’s out of character social media outburst the other week. Johnson referred to his male co-stars as ‘candy asses’, a term he used when trash-talking his opponents as The Rock.

Thhough largely retired as a wrestler, Johnson has been known to return to the ring as The Rock from time to time with his special appearances tending to be at the flagship Wrestlemania event. What better time and place for Diesel and Johnson to settle their supposed differences – at a pay-per-view event that not only promotes the film but gets a lot of eyeballs for WWE who might not otherwise tune in.

Then there’s the other possibility – the feud is real, but the bad PR can be swept under the rug if the pair and the studio uses this possibility as a ‘get out of jail free’ option. This likely won’t be the last we’ll hear of this.
