Salon Pictures has premiered the first photo of actor Johnny Flynn (“Vanity Fair,” “Beast”) as David Bowie in the new feature “Stardust”.
Flynn plays music icon as he embarks on his first road trip to America in 1971 and creates his famed Ziggy Stardust persona. Jena Malone co-stars as Bowie’s wife Angie alongside Marc Maron as publicist Rob Oberman.
The film’s producers claim it’s not a biopic but a ‘moment in time film’ ala “Control” or “Nowhere Boy”. Only period music that Bowie covered will be used, not his original tracks. Gabriel Range helms from a script by Christopher Bell.
Bowie’s son, filmmaker Duncan Jones, has said no music rights had been granted and it does not have the family’s blessing.
