Fede Alvarez To Helm “Labyrinth” Reimagining

“Don’t Breathe” director Fede Alvarez has been hired to direct the upcoming spin-off of 1986 Jim Henson family fantasy classic “Labyrinth” at TriStar.

The original film followed a 16-year old girl (Jennifer Connelly)) who is given thirteen hours to solve a labyrinth and rescue her baby brother after her wish for him to be taken away is whisked away by the Goblin King (David Bowie).

Sources stress that this will be new story within the universe created in the original movie, so it’s not a remake or reboot so much as a reimagining/restart/spin-off. Bowie’s character will not be part of this.

Alvarez will co-write the script with Jay Basu while Lisa Henson will produce. Basu is currently penning the next Lisbeth Salander pic “The Girl in the Spider’s Web” which Alvarez is also directing and that project will come first as it is much further along in development. ‘Web’ is casting and begins shooting this Fall.
