“Wednesday” Viewership Passes “Dahmer”

Netflix

Wednesday Addams has left Jeffrey Dahmer in the dust.

Netflix’s “Wednesday” has become the streamer’s third title to pass the billion hours viewed mark, with 1.02 billion hours racked up after just 19 days.

It has sailed past “Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story” to become Netflix’s new No. 2 English-language TV series of all-time – behind only the fourth season of “Stranger Things”.

Netflix has a 28 day cutoff rule for its records with “Wednesday” still having another nine days to go to try and surpass “Stranger Things” which sits at 1.352 billion hours viewed in its first 28 days.

“Wednesday” has been averaging 53.68 million hours viewed per day so even if it doesn’t beat “Stranger Things,” it’ll be close. Korean-language series “Squid Game” remains the overall champ with a seemingly unbeatable 1.65 billion hours viewed over its first 28 days.

Social media however could help boost those numbers thanks to the show’s dance number. The scene, which actress Jenna Ortega filmed whilst sick with COVID-19, has become a breakout sensation thanks to a TikTok meme.

Said meme sees people recreating Wednesday’s dance moves but ditches the original scene’s “Goo Goo Much” music in favor of a sped up version of Lady Gaga’s “Bloody Mary”. Gaga herself and the Wednesday official account have gotten in on the trend with several million users having already recreated it.

“Wednesday” has not yet been officially renewed for a second season, though it seems a certainty at this point considering the numbers and strong reviews, along with the showrunners having teased plans for more.
