Archie Yates, who had a memorable acting debut this year as the bespectacled best friend of the title boy character in Taika Waititi’s “Jojo Rabbit,” is set to lead the cast of the upcoming “Home Alone” reboot for the Disney+ streaming service.
In addition, comedians Ellie Kemper (“Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt”) and Rob Delaney (“Deadpool 2”) will play his on-screen parents in the Dan Mazer-directed film which boasts a script by Mikey Day and Streeter Seidell.
The original “Home Alone” starred Macaulay Culkin as Kevin McCallister, a suburban kid unwittingly left at home by himself while his family travelled for the Christmas holiday and ends up having to keep his home protected form would-be burglars.
The new film is being labelled “Home Alone” due to the similarities in concept but will score a new title for release. In the new story, the parents have to save their home from financial ruin and go to war with a kid who has stolen a priceless heirloom. These will be all new characters and match the original mostly in spirit rather than detail.
Hutch Parker and Dan Wilson are producing the feature which is due to shoot in Canada in early 2020.
