The CW used the TCA Winter Press Tour to announce renewals for ten of its series, including almost all their regular line-up which is helped by its continuing multiyear output deal with Netflix.
CW president Mark Pedowitz says there are no plans to change the status quo for now, even with WarnerMedia’s streaming service set to launch sometime in the next year.
Returning for the 2019-2020 season: “Arrow” (S8), “Black Lightning” (S3), “Charmed” S2, “DC’s Legends of Tomorrow” (S5), “Dynasty” (S3), “The Flash” (S6), “Legacies” (S2″), “Riverdale” (S4), “Supergirl” (S5) and “Supernatural” (S15).
New series “All American” hasn’t received a renewal as yet, neither has any of the other series getting mid-season launches such as “The 100”.
The CW is moving forward with a pilot for the “Riverdale” musical dramedy spin-off “Katy Keene” but Pedowitz says not to expect any characters from the main series to show up in the new series as it takes place years later.
“Supernatural” hits its 300th episode this week and its fifteenth season renewal is not intended to be a final season with Pedowitz saying: “As long as the ratings hold up and the guys (stars Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles) want to do it, it’s really that simple.” The show has also been a key launchpad to help The CW launch all its shows.
