Denzel Washington and multiple “Mission: Impossible” sequels director Christopher McQuarrie are teaming up.
With Washington’s Hannibal the Conqueror project stalled at Netflix and McQuarrie focusing on new projects, both have a free scheduling window and are quickly teaming up for a new crime thriller.
Set up at Amazon MGM Studios and United Artists, Washington will star in the feature, which was previously titled “The Frame” but currently doesn’t have one.
McQuarrie will direct the project which was penned by Scott Barkan and Gregg Zehentner (“Into the Dark,” “Edge of Fear”), though it’s assumed McQuarrie will do some polishing.
The story centers on a former police detective serving a life sentence who is diagnosed with terminal brain cancer.
Granted compassionate release with six months to live, he returns home to the estranged daughter he left behind and a grandson he never knew existed.
He only wants to make amends and forget his dark past, but his dark past has not forgotten him.
McQuarrie, Heather McQuarrie, Scott Stuber, Nick Nesbitt, Joseph Restaino, Reza Moheet, Norman Aladjem, Katia Washington and Tommy Harper produce.
Progress is moving very quickly, with filming to begin next month in New Jersey ahead of an October 1st 2027 theatrical release.
