Universal Pictures and Illumination Entertainment used the Superbowl to debut the first footage from “Minions: The Rise of Gru,” the sequel to the 2015 “Despicable Me” spin-off.

This entry will focus on the Minions during their first encounter with a young Felonious Gru. The Superbowl spot is used as a tease for a first trailer launch which will arrive this week – on February 5th to be precise.

Kyle Balda and Brad Ableson helm the new entry and will cash in merchandise wise as LEGO will release sets of the Minions in time for the movie, while Mattel is creating toys tied to the film.
